Company Information
Parkesdale
Farms company founder R.E. (Roy) Parke, Jr. emigrated from Northern
Ireland to Pennsylvania with his mother, father R.E. Parke,
Sr. and three brothers in 1924. The elder Parke, a farmer, continued
his vocation after arriving in America.
In
1956, R.E. Parke, Sr. and family moved to Plant City, Fl.,
already recognized as the winter strawberry and vegetable growing
capital of the country, and in short order the family had its
first strawberry crop in the ground on 10 acres.
Over
the many years R.E. (Roy) Parke, Jr., wife Helen and children
have, through hard work and keen knowledge of productive agricultural
and business practices, expanded the farm and company into hundreds
of acres of the best strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers,
sweet onions and cantaloupes found anywhere in the country.
Parkesdale Farms also have their own plant nurseries, which
include four large greenhouses, where they grow over a million
vegetable and flowering plants annually.
In
February 1969 our Parkesdale Farm Market was opened and has
grown into the largest fresh strawberry, citrus and produce
market in Florida. Roy's daughter Cheryl and her husband Jim
Meeks, owners of the market, can be found there every day.
R.E.
(Roy) Parke, Jr. a strong family man, has many awards and accomplishments
to his name within the agriculture and business community and
is very active in his church and community. He represents the
ideals, energy and know how that makes our country great.
