  • Food and Wine Conference Recap, Orlando

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Food and Wine Conference in Orlando hosted by Isabel from Sunday Supper. The event was housed at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort on Universal Boulevard.

    Food and Wine Conference

As a sponsor, I headed up to Orlando with a car full of strawberry cookies for the afternoon snack break.

I must tell you, the strawberry cookies were a hit, but you already knew that.  I'm not going to lie, It was so fun to see everyone oohing and aahing over our Parkesdale strawberry cookies!

It was also nice running into other Plant City people!  I ran into Sue Harrell from Strawberry Sue.  If you don't know Sue, she's the director of marketing for the Florida Strawberry Association as well as a seasoned strawberry grower.  Also in town, to give the Keynote Opening Speech, was future Plant City resident Ms. Whitney Miller! If you missed her on Master Chef, she was the winner of the show's first season.

The other keynote speaker was Emily Ellen from Food Network Star.  She was a finalist from season 8.  With her Retro Rad look and her witty comebacks, these two were the perfect introduction to a great learning experience.

Alas, it was a great weekend of fun, food and camaraderie among bloggers and brands alike.  I'll leave you with some of the fun tweets about our strawberry cookies:

  • Friday Favorites

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I last posted Friday Favorites. Here are some of my favorites I've been meaning to share with you. We are almost at the end of strawberry season. This Sunday will be the last day for strawberry shortcake and Parkesdale strawberries. So maybe you should stop by this weekend. But while you are here, please make sure to check out our current giveaways here and here.

    Bolthouse Farms

A while back one of my favorite bloggers, Kath, held a twitter chat with Bolthouse Farms. The purpose of the twitter chat was to promote healthy foods as part of Bolthouse Farms #FoodPornIndex campaign.  Bolthouse Farms created the Food Porn Index to collect food porn hashtags and track what kinds of foods we're all sharing. Their marketing campaign has gotten some attention even NPR was talking about it. Inside the package I received there was a new to me product. Did you know Bolthouse Farms made salad dressings? I didn't.  The salad dressing was very good. I'm usually making my own dressing so it was a nice surprise to try an already made dressing that tasted this great.

My favorite part about their juices is that they actually taste like what their name or picture indicates. I have yet to try one of their juices I didn't enjoy. I also got to try their coffee drinks as well as their protein shakes. Both were delicious and neither was overly sweet or chalky tasting. I was happy to see both Publix and Winn Dixie had them as buy one, get one free specials these last two weeks.

Marshalls is coming to Plant City!

Recently Ross came to Plant City and while I am happy about them being there I secretly hoped and wondered if Marshalls would ever come near me. Low and behold, Construction has started right next to Ross for our very own Marshalls. I am so so so very excited about this. I have been shopping at Marshalls for years that was until I moved to Plant City. Getting in and out of the Brandon one was such a mess that I barely stopped there. So you can see why I'm so excited to have one so close to my house. I could almost bike there! So thank you Marshalls for bringing quality clothing at great prices to Plant City!

    Color Me Rad

This year I will finally run the Color Me Rad 5k in Tampa. I'm hoping The girls will be able to join me. From everything I've heard this is definitively a family event type race where kids can safely run without being a safety issue. A couple of our cashiers participated last year and we purchased "Parkesdale Girls" shirts for the, to wear at the event. Stay tuned for a chance to win 2 entries to run with us on May 24 at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa.

    Keel and Curley Blueberry Festival

This weekend Keel and Curley is hosting their annual Tampa Bay Blueberry Festival right here in Plant City. This will be our third year participated at this event. If you haven't made it there yet, I encourage you to go check it out this weekend. There's free admission, free entertainment and even a free kids area. You'll be able to pick blueberries and check out over 100 food and craft vendors. The event is now three days starting on Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27th. I hope to see you there!

  • Tasting Event October 26, 2013

Mark your calendars for our next tasting event scheduled for October 26, 2013 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in our greenhouse at the market.  We'll be featuring some of our new items for the season.  There will also be door prizes and a raffle for a gift basket!  Sign up for the event at our Facebook page by clicking here.  If you don't have a Facebook account, you can send us an email to info@parkesdale.com letting us know you are coming.

What you'll see at our Tasting Event

Bonelli Sesame Spread - Think of a lighter peanut butter version.  If you like sesame seeds, then you'll love this.  We'll have two options to taste: almond & vanilla or the pistachio & cardamom.  They are both amazing, but I'm partial to the pistachio.  ;)

    tasting event

PBCrave - For a while now I've been reading blog posts about this amazing company and their crazy peanut butter combinations.  In August we attended the Fancy Food Show in NYC and on our way out I found PBCrave's booth.  I was so excited to have found them and even more excited that their products were as good as everyone had said.  Their peanut butter comes in four flavors: cookie nookie, choco choco, coco bananas and razzle dazzle (raspberry and chocolate).  All four varieties will be available for tasting.

Tropic Bee - For you honey lovers, we've got the best of both worlds in one bottle.  Tropic Bee has merged their Florida Orange Blossom honey with Florida Meyer Lemon juice creating the perfect sweetener.

Intensity Academy - While at the Food and Wine Conference in Orlando this summer, I had the pleasure of meeting Michelle Northup owner of Intensity Academy gourmet sauces.  She came up with the idea of making a carrot hot sauce from her own garden.  Her company is Florida based and has won 53 National awards for her sauces.  We've already gone through a jar of her Carrot Karma sauce at home and can't wait to try the rest of her products.

Please let your friends know about our event.  We hope to see you there!
