  • Running Update: ElectroDash 5k and FitFluential

This year I'll be focusing on running more trail races and a few 5ks.  I haven't decided which ones yet, but the Trout Creek 15k on March 23rd and the Xterra Claw 10 M in April 27th are definitively good possibilities for trail races.  As for some fun 5ks, I'm signing up for the ElectroDash 5k in Tampa on March 21st and the Color Me Rad in Tampa on May 24th.

The Electro Dash 5k just seems like a lot of fun.  First of all, its a night race, so the weather should be nice and second of all, who doesn't like glow sticks and all things neon.  Right? If you are interested in running the Electro Dash 5k in Tampa, use this special promo code (TAMPABAYBLOGGERS) for a 15% discount. Or you can enter our giveaway for a free entry.  Two lucky readers will win!

  • Visiting Flagler Avenue, New Smyrna Beach

Last weekend we celebrated my mom's birthday.  So on Sunday, the girls and I packed up and headed to the "east" coast to visit her. The girls were super excited to go because thanks to Martin Luther King Day and a teacher's day, they were out of school for 4 days in a row.  That's an eternity for two little girls.  Ever since I picked them up from school on Friday, they wanted to know what "big plans" we had for their mini-vacation.

     Flagler1

For my mom's birthday we always go out to eat.  So as soon as we got to her house we headed to Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach.  Flagler Avenue reminds me of Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach with its whimsical, beach fashion stores sprinkled with fun restaurants around.   Last summer, we actually visited the beach but didn't have the opportunity to eat.  I had promised my mom, we'd come back and she could pick a restaurant.

We headed to the Beacon Restaurant because of all of it's yelp reviews, but we quickly realized they did not take credit cards and since I hardly carry cash with me we turned around and walked a few feet to The Flagler Tavern.  You might think why would I take two small children to a place named "Tavern".  The answer is simple.  There seems to be two entrances to this restaurant.  One of the entrances leads to a pub-like establishment serving food, while the other leads to a very home-like establishment.  We chose the home-like entrance.

    Flagler Tavern

We started with their clam chowder and the conch chowder.  Both of which were amazing, but I think I liked the clam chowder better.  Then, we had a few appetizers: wings, steamed clams, quesadillas and their famous crab cakes.  If you go there, please order the crab cakes.

    Flagler Beach

After eating so much yummy food, we headed to the beach to walk off some of the calories.  I should have known that it would be impossible to keep my youngest one out of the water.  Within minutes of us walking on to the sand, she was in knee deep in the Altantic.  Thankfully, she had pulled her leggings up.

    Do you yelp?

  • Restaurant Wish List 2014

While most people in the blogosphere are writing about their New Year's Resolutions or goals for 2014, I've decided instead to let you in a little secret. It's been a while since I've written down resolutions after New Year's Eve.  So, this year I decided to write about my "eating goals" for 2014. And by that, I mean the restaurants I want to visit in 2014.  There are a lot of great restaurants popping up all over the Tampa Bay Area, so here's my wish list:

    Elevage

This year I waited till the last possible minute to make reservations for New Year's Eve.  Ever since we moved to Tampa, our tradition has been to go out to dinner and come home to watch the ball drop on Tv.  For the past few years, we've made it to Sidebern's for New Year's Eve.  We love the tasting menu and enjoy the time it takes.  If you've never been, be prepared to be there for about two hours if you order the tasting menu.  After our dinner at Sideberns, we walked about a block to the new Epicurean Hotel which hosts Elevage.  We were greeted by the happiest staff on earth.  I'm not kidding.  Every one was so very nice and cheery when we walked through their doors.  We saw the layout of the restaurant and headed to the roof top bar, Edge. The bar has great views of the city and a great snacking menu.

    Rooster and the Till

Rooster and the Till in Seminole Heights had their grand opening on New Year's Eve.  The quaint restaurant seats 37 patrons.  The restaurant offers Modern American cuisine using products from nearby farms and gardens.  Here's a video link of Chef Ferrell Alvarez on Fox 13.  I'm  a big cheese fan, so I'm looking forward to their charcuterie and cheese tasting as well as their lamb shoulder with creamed farro.  I've heard a lot about farro lately, but I'm afraid to cook it.

    Cask and Larder

While Cask and Larder is not in the Tampa Bay area, it's actually in Winter Park, I've decided to add them here because of our history with Chef Petraski.  A year ago, Chef Petraski came to our market for a cooking/canning demonstration.  You can read all about it here.  The concept behind Cask and Larder is that of a craft brewery with a southern kitchen.  Can you say win-win?  Craft beer and southern food? Why yes, please and thank you.  I hear they offer a fabulous Brunch Menu too.

So here's my list of three restaurants to visit in 2014.  If you get there before I do, please tell me what you thought!

What's on your wish list for 2014?
